This particular painting was created in response to the mass killings of protesters during the events of 17–18 Dey 1404 (7–8 January 2026) in Iran, when nationwide demonstrations were met with extreme state violence and thousands of people were killed by security forces. For many Iranians, these days became a moment of collective trauma and irreversible grief. The work emerged from a need to process mourning through image-making and to reflect on the emotional aftermath of violence, loss, and the fragility of human presence under authoritarian power.
